Latest CSN Articles

From this point on, the Community Sport Network team will no longer be sending out articles.

It was established in August 2013 as a free to access news-line on all things happening in Community Sport. It was set up as a small contribution to the legacy of London 2012 which inspired us all and will live long in our memories.

Nearly five years down the track there are now a number of other respected sporting news offerings online, so we thank you for your readership and support which has extended to over 200 countries, and wish you all well in your ongoing efforts to help create a fitter, healthier sporting nation.

Thanks for being a part of it!

Girls Active Camp – 'Your Journey, Your Impact'

0 0
The Youth Sport Trust in partnership with the Women in Sport, Loughborough University and supported by Sport England are aiming to create a network of girls to act as role models in their schools and communities to inspire and motivate other girls to take part in sport.

The Girls Active Camp was delivered on the 27- 29th of March, allowing the 150 girls attending to explore barriers to participation whilst developing leadership skills to vehicle change in their own environments. The sessions delivered were both practical and interactive challenging the reasons as to why so many girls are inactive or on the verge of being inactive.

Over the two days the girls at the camp aimed to:
establish a Girls Leadership and Marketing (GLAM) team within their school;
act as a team of five to engage a minimum of 50 girls in regular physical activity in their school or community, over a minimum of 10 weeks;
act as role models, inspiring and motivating more females to participate, lead and actively volunteer in sport;
develop a peer-buddy system to support their contemporaries; and
work with their teachers to review the provision and opportunities for young girls in physical activity, physical education and sport in their school and community to provide a greater range of opportunities.

Girls Active recognises that girls' needs differ and change as they mature and that girls themselves are uniquely positioned to 'sell' PE and sport to other girls. It is based on the Youth Sport Trust-developed principles of student engagement, such as student voice and leadership, alongside innovative approaches to marketing.
