From this point on, the Community Sport Network team will no longer be sending out articles.

It was established in August 2013 as a free to access news-line on all things happening in Community Sport. It was set up as a small contribution to the legacy of London 2012 which inspired us all and will live long in our memories.

Nearly five years down the track there are now a number of other respected sporting news offerings online, so we thank you for your readership and support which has extended to over 200 countries, and wish you all well in your ongoing efforts to help create a fitter, healthier sporting nation.

Last week, the Minister for Public Health Jane Ellison gave a keynote speech to around 60 Responsibility Deal partners, celebrating the achievements of the Physical Activity Network Responsibility Deal across the four networks: Alcohol, food, health at work and physical activity (PAN).

The core PAN commitment has been to – ‘encourage and assist people to become more physically active' provides a framework and strategic direction. The network covers both private and public sector sign-ups and has allowed the important role of physical activity in people’s lives to be widely recognised. The Network allows partners to come together, share good practice and develop partnerships to support delivery of collective pledges to see positive change ‘go further, faster’.

Through the physical activity workplace pledge, it is estimated that 1.5 million more people are now supported to be more active than before in their workplaces. Over 500 companies are seeing good health and wellbeing being supported in the workplace and over 300 organisations pledge to help get people, of all ages and backgrounds, more active.

In her speech, the Minister highlighted how these integrated partnerships, involving open and honest collaboration, has produced real results which have had an impact on people’s lives. She commented that the development and delivery of pledges has been accomplished with real pace and creativity and that partners can be very proud of all that’s been achieved- demonstrating the role that business can play in helping people to be healthier.

Since the launch nearly 800 partners have signed up across 43 pledges.
