From this point on, the Community Sport Network team will no longer be sending out articles.

It was established in August 2013 as a free to access news-line on all things happening in Community Sport. It was set up as a small contribution to the legacy of London 2012 which inspired us all and will live long in our memories.

Nearly five years down the track there are now a number of other respected sporting news offerings online, so we thank you for your readership and support which has extended to over 200 countries, and wish you all well in your ongoing efforts to help create a fitter, healthier sporting nation.

Thanks for being a part of it!

National Fitness Day set for September 26th

0 0
National Fitness Day, the largest celebration of physical activity in the UK, will take place next month on September 26th with free mass participation exercise events scheduled for London, Birmingham and Bristol.

National Fitness Day is being staged by ukactive, the leading health body for the physical activity sector, and will see hundreds of clubs, parks and leisure centres open their doors to welcome the public for free.

One of the highlights of the day will see hundreds of eager participants sweat it out together in mass participation exercise events in public squares in London, Birmingham and Bristol where they will be energised by great music and motivated by the fun of getting fit together.

In addition, there will be a free "National Fitness Day Power Half Hour” that will see 30 minutes sessions take place in exercise venues across the country for members and non-members – from Spin and Zumba to Body Combat and swim relays.

The ultimate aim is for National Fitness Day to provide the inspiration and opportunities to move.

"National Fitness Day is about building a countrywide community of people who are united by the desire to hang out together doing something fun,” explained ukactive CEO David Stalker.

"Some of them might also be motivated by the idea that it is also going to be good for them and that really is the correct order.

"At ukactive, we’re a pretty energetic bunch – plenty of us think nothing of doing a daily 5km run or four Spin classes a week.

"But we know that we’re certainly not the norm.

"The latest statistics show that 25% of adults in the UK are completely inactive.

"That means, they do absolutely nothing to raise their heart rate moderately.

"Whatever the reason, let’s be honest, a lot of people find it a real challenge getting into the mindset where physical activity is a pleasure, rather than a chore.

"National Fitness Day is all about providing the inspiration to get active!

It’s about creating a social movement that offers everyone an opportunity to get involved in physical activity, for free, through a ‘Power Half Hour’ event on their doorstep.

"And it’s about kick-starting the journey into regular exercise for thousands of people across the country, so that we have a healthier, happier nation!”
