Residents of Suffolk take part in the Great East Run in aid of long term illness & mental health

24 Suffolk residents who are inactive and/or living with a long term physical or mental health condition are being given the opportunity to sign up for a supported run training programme in Ipswich, with the aim of completing the Great East Run half marathon on the 24th September.

Participants will receive an extensive programme of support with expert weekly coaching sessions developed by double Olympic long distance runner Paul Evans, exclusive discount on running gear at Coes in Ipswich, fast track physiotherapy and strength and conditioning sessions with Allied Health Professionals, life coaching with the team at the Blossom charity, diet and nutrition support from Suffolk’s healthy lifestyles provider, One Life Suffolk and entry to the Great East Run.

Over the course of 5 months participants will be supported to develop their stamina, fitness and confidence to take on the 13.1mile course.

The programme which has been developed by Suffolk Sport and Suffolk County Council is open to individuals between the ages of 17 – 25 and 50 plus with 12 places available in each age category.

It's hoped that the programme, which will be hosted at Inspire Suffolk in Ipswich, will provide an opportunity for participants to embark on a life changing journey, which will see them complete the half marathon alongside thousands of other runners.

The Great East Run Ipswich is the latest addition to the Great Run Company’s portfolio of mass participation events, which also includes amongst others the Great North Run, the world’s biggest half marathon.

To apply for a place on the programme, visit /www.suffolksport.com/ger2017 where full details of the eligibility criteria are available alongside with the registration form. On application the programme coordinator will then be in touch directly to discuss the programme in more detail.
Valued at over £300 per participant, the opportunities are being made available at a small one-off charge of £30 per person.
