ukactive CEO David Stalker has been appointed as the new Chair of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
The CIMSPA works to provide leadership, support and empowerment for professionals working in sport and physical activity and a single unified voice for the sector.
In his new role, Stalker will support the transition of the CIMSPA in line with the ambition of its landmark business plan approved by members in November 2013.
He will also lead the recruitment of a full time CEO to build upon the work of the transitional team currently in place and that is headed up by interim COO Tara Dillon.
Stalker’s appointment for a year-long term comes alongside the recruitment of several new Board members to the organisation and CIMSPA vice-chairman Carl Bennett is confident that the ukactive CEO is the perfect fit for the prestigious position.
”We are delighted to have appointed David,” said Bennett, who led the Nominations Committee responsible for appointing the Chair.
"CIMSPA is currently operating in a fast paced environment with new opportunities becoming available every day; as such it is crucial that we are providing the interim COO and in due course CEO with necessary support from a dedicated chair.
"By ensuring that the chair and vice-chair both have a detailed knowledge of the institute’s current position and its aims and objectives we will ensure the institute is best placed to reach its potential.”
"The Board has not taken this decision lightly particularly given the sterling quality of the candidates available.
"However if the sector repeats the process of the last twelve months then in a years’ time we will be operating in an even further advanced position and be well placed to return to our recruitment of a long term independent chairperson.”
Stalker, who will undertake the role alongside his responsibilities as ukactive CEO, is excited by the challenge ahead.
"I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to support the Interim COO and in due course CEO to grasp all of the opportunities that are falling in front of the Institute.
"It will be a challenging and busy year but I believe in the importance and potential of the Institute more than ever before and am delighted that we are beginning to see it come to fruition.
"In my role as Chair I will be calling upon employers to continue to advocate the highest principles of professionalism and support their Institute.
"I also look forward to recruiting new dynamic individuals onto the Board who will bring a fresh perspective and ideas on how we can continue to support our sector.”
